How to enable two-factor authentication on your account

A standard login to Kolekto secures your account using a single piece of information that you know, your password. Two-factor authentication (sometimes called 2FA for short) adds an extra step in the login process to provide additional security, by requiring you to enter a special one-time code from your mobile phone. This means that in order to log in to your Kolekto account with 2FA enabled, you need to have something you know (your password) and something you own (your mobile phone, for instance).

We encourage all Kolekto users to enable 2FA for their accounts. While it is not recommended to share passwords between applications, we know that sometimes, it inevitably happens. In case your password is guessed by someone else, or it is exposed by a security breached with another application, unscrupulous users may be able to use it to log in to your Kolekto account if you do not have 2FA enabled. If you enable 2FA, even people who know your password won't be able to log in without the 6-digit passcode generated by the authentication app on your second device.

While Kolekto does not make it necessary for users to enable 2FA on their accounts, we believe that the peace of mind it provides to our users is an important step in securing their accounts against unauthorized access.

At present, two-factor authentication can only be enabled via the Kolekto browser application, but we're planning to integrate this into our mobile applications very soon. Please follow the instructions below to get started with 2FA.

Desktop instructions

  1. Install the Google Authenticator app onto your iPhone or Android device.
  2. Login to Kolekto in your web browser.
  3. Go to "Settings" in the menu bar by clicking
  4. Click on "Two Factor Auth"
  5. Enable two-factor authentication by using the toggle switch.
  6. Confirm your Kolekto account password by typing it into the field that appears.
  7. Finally, open up the Google Authenticator app on your device, and scan the QR code that has been shown.
  8. Done!

Next time you log into your Kolekto account, you will be asked to enter the 6-digit code present inside the Google Authenticator app.
